First consultation

How to prepare your first consultation with a matrimonial lawyer

A guide to organize your doubts and take advantage of the conversation.

A case to put us

A person is considering separating and doesn't know where to start. This example is fictitious and does not correspond to a client of the law office.

What can I prepare before the appointment?

Write a summary of your situation, the dates you remember and the three questions that concern you most. Also indicate what you would like to achieve with the consultation.

What if I don't know what documents are needed?

Write down what documents you have and ask the law office which ones they need to review. Avoid sending sensitive information through open channels or public forms.

What should be asked?

You can ask what information is missing, what alternatives should be studied, what a possible assignment would include, and how the work would be budgeted. Each situation requires an individual assessment.
